Singer Sonu Nigam goes unrecognised as old street musician and gave a brilliant message through his experiment

Sonu Nigam dressed up as a homeless old man, sitting in one corner of Juhu with his harmonium, singing melodies. When he started singing, no one took notice, but slowly, as he gathered momentum with his music, so did people stop to take notice.

Titled ‘The Roadside Ustaad’ the video shows Nigam singing the famous song from the SRK-starrer ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ and other ghazals which caught the attention of many passers by. ‘Being Indian’ tells us in the video that the reason behind this experiment was to find out ‘how Indians react to beauty when it is just around the corner.

He had a simple tagline beside him: Khojna kya hai, khushiyan yahaan hai (Where are you searching for happiness, it’s right here). The beauty of his thought and his music moved those listening to him.

Some recorded his voice, some stood beside him and asked him if he had eaten anything since morning. That was the power of his music. His voice, that moved people.

Many times, we do come across such artists, but we fail to acknowledge them. If you have ever been that person, then stop today, take a deep breath, and acknowledge this man, who truly deserves a standing ovation for his great deed.
